Until recent years access to a radiation therapy for cancer treatment in the Republic of Georgia was limited, and for the majority of Georgian patients was often available only abroad. In recent years, there has been significant overhaul of the Georgian health care system under the leadership of the Georgian Healthcare Group and its subsidiary company - EVEX Medical Corporation. On February 2013 the universal healthcare plan was established by the Georgian Government. In 2015, the Western Georgia Oncology Center was established by the EVEX Medical Corporation in the city of Kutaisi. Since May 2021 the center is operating under new name - Krystyna Kiel Oncology Center. The center offers various cancer treatment options including radiation therapy
Unfortunately one of every five patients still cannot afford the copay for radiation treatments. Even after receiving approval from universal health plan that covers 80% of treatment costs, some patients quietly go away and never return due to the lack of resources. This copay varies from $400 to $1000. The Inga Cancer Foundation plans to help eliminate this financial gap so every eligible patient can obtain treatment and achieve cure rates seen in the Western World
